The member`s leave and results declaration (LES) contains the BAH, which is cleaned around the service („place“), which is why determining the obligation to assist requires consultation with the non-local BAH rate schedule published annually by the DOD (see current and historical rates here). In the absence of a contrary court decision or a written agreement to the contrary, AFI 36-2906, the personal financial responsibility of Air Force members requires that separated family members be paid a proportionate share of BAH With Dependents, without local adjustment (see here the current BAH rate table). Finally, the obligation to assist lasts 18 months, after which the spouse will have to apply for legal assistance. In limited situations, a relay commander may relieve the member of his obligation to assist, such as z.B.: Support is based on the „non-local“ BAH With Dependents rate. Sometimes this has been called BAQ or BAH-II and is simply a standardized base premium for building unsealed housing for the member`s service. Thus, while a member stationed in Hawaii receives a much higher BAH than a member of the same rank stationed in Wyoming, they have the same duty of assistance as their unlocated BAH rates are the same. You`ll find a discussion about THES and military payment in our article Understanding Military Pay – The LES. The military should not be a substitute for a civilian court – the requirements for support are temporary and somewhat limited, and rather as an association, to ensure a minimum of support, rather than a well-thought-out, case-by-case definition of what a family needs or what a member can afford.
